This roast is for the outdoorsman whom appreciates all facets terrain and the unique challenge it brings towards the activity being pursued. It's appreciation for the lands, waters and atmosphere that prompts Old Flannel Coffee Company to offer this bold, single-origin, dark roast from Sumatra.
Coffee labeled Sumatra, is grown on the Sunda Islands, a cluster of islands making up Western Indonesia. Sumatra, being the largest island, became the name of the region. The island of Sumatra is located directly on "the coffee bean belt" which straddles the equator.
The Dutch East India Company brought Coffea Arebica plants to Indonesia in the 1700s following their first exploration of Java in 1711. Indonesia is a huge player in the global coffee trade due a mixture of ideal soil and climatic conditions. The varied terrains and elevations amongst the Sunda Islands makes Sumatra one of the globe's most acclaimed regions and the resulting coffees display deep, rich flavors with earthy tones.
